Local Magnetic Investigations of MgB2 Bulk Samples for Magnetic Shielding Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
A local magnetic characterization of disk-shaped MgB2 bulk samples synthesized by the Spark-Plasma-Sintering technique was carried out aimed at studying the material magnetic shielding properties. This growth technique allows one to produce samples in different shapes and sizes as required for shielding applications. The analysis employed a linear array of Hall probes mounted on a custom-designed stage able to move perpendicular to the sample surface with micrometric resolution. Spatial distributions of the axial component of the shielding magnetic-induction field generated by the superconductor were evaluated in the temperature range 20-36 K and in applied magnetic field up to 1.5 T. By the analysis of these shielding field profiles in the framework of the critical state model, critical current densities, Jc, higher than 10 A/m were found at T = 20 K. On the basis of the found Jc values a preliminary estimation of the full penetration field inside a tube-shaped shield component was carried out. It indicates that the material under test is a good candidate for passive magnetic shields.

MgB2 wire and tape were prepared using the powder in tube and reaction in-situ technique. All samples were characterized using the XRD, SEM, TEM, as well as transport and magnetic measurements. High transport and magnetic critical current density values have been obtained for metal-clad wires and tapes. Different sheath materials have been examined, but Fe appears to be the best sheath for MgB...
متن کاملPermanent magnet with MgB2 bulk superconductor
Superconductors with persistent zero-resistance currents serve as permanent magnets for high-field applications requiring a strong and stable magnetic field, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The recent global helium shortage has quickened research into high-temperature superconductors (HTSs)—materials that can be used without conventional liquid-helium cooling to 4.2 K. Herein, we demo...
متن کاملSize Evolution Study of the Electronic and Magnetic Properties of MgO Nanoclusters
Magnesium oxide nanoclusters have attracted much attention due to their potential applications to catalysis and novel optoelectronic materials. In the present study, we have studied the electronic and magnetic properties of the stoichiometric magnesium oxide nanoclusters (MgO)n for n = 2-20. Although the binding energy increases with the size of the cluster, it re...
متن کامل3-D RF Coil Design Considerations for MRI
High-frequency coils are widely used in medical applications, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems. A typical medical MRI includes a local radio frequency transmit/receive coil. This coil is designed for maximum energy transfer or wave transfer through magnetic resonance. Mutual inductance is a dynamic parameter that determines the energy quantity to be transferred wirelessly by ele...
متن کاملAnomalous magnetic hysteresis in the microwave surface resistance of MgB 2 superconductor
We report experimental results of the field-induced variations of the microwave surface resistance in samples of MgB2, produced by different methods. By sweeping the DC magnetic field at increasing and decreasing values, we have detected a magnetic hysteresis that can be ascribed to the different magnetic induction, due to the critical state of the fluxon lattice. The hysteresis observed in the...
